Airbag Uh-Ohs: Toyota to recall 80k Venza SUVs in Canada

venza

Ottawa, Ontario — Toyota is recalling roughly 80,000 Venza SUVs in Canada and 280,000 in the U.S. across the 2009 to 2015 model years.

Due to concerns of potentially damaged wires on the driver’s-side door, it’s possible that side and curtain airbags may not deploy in a collision — though there may be a related warning light, said the automaker.

Due to wear and tear the wires in the driver’s side can begin to rub against a grommet in the door, which could lead to a damaged airbag sensor, making it inoperable.

The recall is expected to begin May 31, though Toyota has estimated that less than one percent of owners may experience this issue and will reimburse those who have paid for related work.

Dealerships can inspect the issue and, if necessary, replace the faulty part — free of charge.
