Toronto, Ontario — More than 112,0-0 Honda Ridgelines have been recalled this week over fire safety hazard concerns due to rear-frame corrosion issues. The rear frame of these vehicles could become corroded and detach alongside exposure to road salt, which in turn causes fires and other significant damage, said Honda.
The Honda Ridgelines affected by the recall span the model years 2006 to 2014 and were produced between October 2004 and June 2014. This recall particularly affects vehicles sold in the U.S. However, Transport Canada currently does not have an update regarding whether this affects Canadian vehicles. However, Canadian car owners can always find out if their car is part of a current recall campaign by searching their VIN online.
Honda dealers will inspect the rear frame of affected vehicles free of charge. If fixable, they will attach a reinforcement brace, and apply anti-corrosive wax as a remedy. If the vehicle is unable to be fixed, dealers may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owners who have paid to repair their trucks at a previous date are eligible for reimbursement.
Honda reports that there have currently been no fires or injuries related to the issue, but claims they have received five customer complaints between 2016 and 2021 related to the defects.
