Getting Grounded: ALLDATA releases list of safety tips for Honda, Hyundai hybrid-electrics

alldata

Toronto, Ontario — Techs that work on hybrid vehicles everyday know the challenges that come with combining traditional combustion engines with battery-electric technology; that’s why the experts at ALLDATA have put together a list of safety tips to keep in mind when working on Honda and Hyundai hybrids.

The first and most crucial rule before anything; check the vehicle’s manual for a section concerning “High Voltage Shut-off Procedures.” Ensuring that the vehicle’s electrical components are inactive when conducting repairs is an easy rule to forget—but potentially the most dangerous one if you do.

Using the Hyundai IONIQ Plug-in hybrid as an example, the high voltage shut-off procedure requires the tech to access the vehicle’s battery below the luggage board and remove the safety plug from the battery. Note that the tech should leave the battery alone for five minutes before then testing its voltage to ensure that the battery is fully inactive.

The full list of hybrid tips, safety and otherwise, can be found on ALLDATA’s website.
