Ford recalls over 160,000 vehicles in North America

Detroit, Michigan — August 25, 2014 — Ford has issued a recall for some of its vehicles in North America over two separate safety issues. Ford is in the process of notifying customers and will repair the vehicles free of charge.

Nearly 160,000 Escape and Focus ST cars are being recalled, as Ford has discovered a potential wiring problem that could lead to engine hesitation or stalling. All of these vehicles are from the 2013 and 2014 model years.

The other issue involves 616 Focus and C-Max vehicles that were built earlier this month. The steering gears in these cars do not have the right number of ball bearings. This has the potential to cause excessive wear on the remaining ball bearings, which could cause them to degrade, leading to a loss of steering control. Ford notes that none of these vehicles have been sold as yet, and are still at dealerships.

As far as is known, there are no accidents or injuries associated with either recall.
