For Bauer: Simplicity Barrie says goodbye to shop dog of 10 years

Barrie, Ontario 一 “On the weekends, he would spend a lot of time up at the cottage. He was a great swimmer; he loved being around people. He would run and chase after the geese.

“In the office, we had a big bowl of water for him and people would come in and give him treats. He would greet them and let them pet him; he was just a really gentle soul.

“Anywhere you would go, he was there. That would include going to the bathroom一he was there. He was literally attached at the hip,” said Kim Read, office manager of Simplicity Car Care Barrie, over the phone with Collision Repair, describing, not an excessively odd human co-worker, but a treasured canine companion.

Join Simplicity Barrie in sending off one of their team’s most loyal and beloved members, Bauer the shop dog.

“He was 10 years old and he actually belonged to one of the owner’s sons, Joe. He was in here a lot; he would greet the customers and walk around. He was an awesome dog一probably the best dog you could ever have,” said Read.

Joe and Bauer bonded like characters out of a Disney movie growing up together.

“When Joe was little, they would put a harness around him and he would pull Joe on his toboggan,” said Read.

By the time Joe had grown up and was heading off to school, Bauer was making regular appearances down at his father Mike’s collision shop.

“When Joe was away at school, he would come in with Mike. He would go around to all the guys and say good morning; when they went on break, he would sit with them and just hope for a dropping of food一and he never barked at anybody. That was the best thing, and you could always count on him,” said Read.

“We would feed him Timbits; he was the usual mooch but he was a great dog.”

On Monday, Read took to LinkedIn to announce that Bauer had passed, saying “With great sadness, we say goodbye to Bauer as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Simplicity Car Care Barrie our famous shop dog.”

Simplicity CEO Paul Prochilo commented on the post saying, “Wishing Bauer an eternity of happiness on the other side of the bridge.”

Bauer was 10 years old and succumbed to liver failure on Sunday.
