Ottawa, Ontario — April 7, 2013 — The Ottawa Senators Foundation, in partnership with CARSTAR Collision and Glass, has unveiled three reconditioned Dodge Grand Caravans which have been donated to local charitable organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Housing.
The Ottawa Senators Foundation partnered with CARSTAR Collision and Glass to create the CARSTAR Community Power Play, aimed at giving back to the community and providing mobility to organizations and individuals in need.
“These vehicles will provide local charities with additional mobility making it easier for them to provide essential services to children and families.†said Danielle Robinson, president, Ottawa Senators Foundation. “CARSTAR Collision and Glass have gone above and beyond in bringing these vans to near-new condition. We are very proud to have collaborated with them on the Community Power Play Initiative.â€
The gifting of the vehicles to the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa is in keeping with the Senators Foundation’s ongoing mission to provide access and resources for social recreation programs that promote both physical and mental wellness among children and youth within the region.
“The Ottawa Community Housing Foundation goes beyond the bricks and mortar of housing – the Foundation inspires and empowers the 32,000 tenants living in OCH communities to achieve personal success,” says Wendy Mitchell, Executive Director of the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation for Healthy Communities. “With 160 OCH communities spread out across the city, the use of a vehicle will significantly boost our capacity to connect tenants and mobilize resources.”
“The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, serving 4500 youth in our community, is thrilled to receive a Dodge Grand Caravan from CARSTAR,†Says Colleen Mooney, Executive Director. “The van will provide transportation to sporting tournaments and community events for our Members. Transportation can be a big barrier to children and youth participating in sports and special events. CARSTAR’s gift is so much more than a van … it is an opportunity for at-risk kids to experience all that Ottawa has to offer.â€
“Being a part of this initiative and seeing it come together over the past few months has been a heart-warming experience – not only for myself, but for everyone at CARSTAR,†said Chris Moore, National Marketing Manager, CARSTAR Automotive Canada Inc. “We pride ourselves on giving back to the communities in which we work and to families in need. Thanks to the Ottawa Senators Foundation for being such a gracious partner.â€
CARSTAR’s five stores in the Greater Ottawa Region are thrilled to give back to the community in which their employees live and work and the Ottawa Senators Foundation proved the perfect partner to do so. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has raised over $75 million to support community initiatives in eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
This program builds on CARSTAR’s history of successful grassroots philanthropic efforts, including a decade of raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis Canada through its successful Soaps It Up National Car Wash Campaign. Many of the parts used in the repair of the vehicles will be donated by LKQ Corporation.
