Toronto, Ontario — December 6, 2018 –- From a new Audi flying car demonstration to Tesla autopilot saving someone’s life — Collision Repair has prepared the top five unbelievable stories of the week.

Autopilot saves lives

The autopilot feature in Tesla vehicles ended up saving the life of a driver that fell asleep at the wheel. Police noticed that the man behind the wheel of a grey Tesla Model S travelling 70 miles an hour on the freeway towards Silicon Valley was in fact asleep. As an effort to wake up the driver the police drove behind him flashing the vehicles sirens and lights – but the driver still didn’t wake up. Once they realized he was on autopilot mode the police drove in front of the vehicle and slowed down, where it then came to a stop. The driver was then arrested for driving under the influence.

Bouncing Tire

A terrifying incident on the Highway 401 was caught on Don Williams dash cam this past Wednesday. The footage shows a tire wheel that fell off of a vehicle rolling across the collectors lanes before bouncing into the express lanes and then going airborne and crashing into another vehicles back window. Willams told CTV News that he was heading eastbound on the highway towards Barrie when he saw something from the corner of his eye. ““It bounced right over. I actually thought it was going to hit me,” he said.

Audi and Airbus’s flying car concept

Flying cars might be entering the industry earlier than you think. Audi and Airbus teamed up to form their concept of a flying car during Amsterdam Drone Week. The concept is referred to as Pop.Up.Next and was demonstrated in a miniature form but Audi says it could be a life-size reality within the next decade.  The display showed a two-seat capsule for passengers and a four-rotor drone, put together through a detachable pod. How it works is simple, the autonomous vehicle drives under a frame where the drone also flies over to a location where it places itself on an electric vehicle frame to pick up the pod from the vehicle.

Nail Tires?

Youtube account Garage 54Eng put together a video demonstrating their experiment of creating tires made out of 3,000 nails. The tires were then put on the front of the vehicle and tested out. The verdict showed that they managed to have quite a bit of grip but when the driver sped up the vehicle, most of the nails collapsed.

Airport crash

A 39-year-old Florida resident was arrested by Manatee County police for crashing through a fence at the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. She had smashed her car into a plane and then crashed out of the airport through another fence, causing about $10,000 to $15,000 in damage. The police found a box of wine in the front seat and when they questioned the woman she said she only had one drink and thought she was in Ohio.
