MGM Expansion: MSO acquires GTA facilities

Oshawa, Ontario -- The MGM Auto Group, co-owned by Mike Cherneta (left) and Kapi Komera (right), is acquiring two new locations in Oshawa, Ontario.

The MSO now owns CARSTAR Oshawa Drake Street at 660 Drake St. and CARSTAR Oshawa North at 285 Taunton Rd E. Following their acquisition, the MSO now controls nine CARSTAR locations in Ontario.

The Drake Street location is fully certified by several OEM programs — including FCA, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis and Nissan GTR. It is staffed by a team of technicians trained to meet manufacturer repair standards. Oshawa North is currently undergoing upgrades and working toward similar certifications.

“Our objective remains consistent: delivering service customers can trust,” said Mike Cherneta. “We’re excited to extend our operations into the Oshawa market with expertise and care.”

Komera emphasized the group’s commitment to quality and community: “We’ve built a culture focused on quality, growth, and community involvement. With Oshawa Drake Street and Oshawa North joining … we’re excited to continue making a positive impact.”

CARSTAR Canada has praised the move. In a press release, senior director Collin Welsh called Cherneta and Komera “ideal stewards” for the new locations, pointing to their proven track record in operations, leadership and customer service.

The addition of these two centres follows MGM Auto Group’s recent acquisition of locations in Mississauga, Brampton, Milton, Georgetown, Downsview, Woodbridge, and Richmond Hill.

The announcement also comes hot on the heels of Chernata receiving the 2025 Franchisee of the Year award during CARSTAR's Rise conference in Toronto.
