Thunder Bay, Ontario — November 4, 2013 — A Thunder Bay area shop was severely damaged after a fire ignited inside the Vickers Street North business.
Several trucks and firefighters quickly responded to the blaze at Frankie and Johnny’s Auto Body just before dawn on Nov. 1, but were met with a thick, billowing smoke as they approached the collision repair shop. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and is currently under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall.
Paul Abernethy, a fire prevention officer with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, says there were no injuries as a result of the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish most of the flames on the scene, with only a few trucks remaining throughout the day to keep any hotspots under control.
Frankie and Johnny’s Auto Body, located at 830 Vickers St. N, had been a staple in the Thunder Bay area neighbourhood for nearly 40 years.
Abernethy says a vehicle was also stolen from the shop’s lot, but it has since been recovered and police believe they have a suspect in custody.
