Arrest made in connection with Toronto shop fire

Toronto, Ontario — August 25, 2014 — Police have arrested a 31-year-old man after two cars were set on fire in the North York area of Toronto. The fires were set early Sunday morning, near the intersection of Jane St. and Wilson Ave.

Toronto Fire Services received a call at 1:48 a.m., reporting a vehicle on fire on Richard Clark Dr. Another call was received roughly 10 minutes later for another car fire less than a block away.  Within half an hour, they had received a third call regarding someone lighting a fire at the back of a property on a nearby street.

Police say they believe all three incidents to be the work of one person and are treating the fires as suspicious.

The area has seen numerous car fires over the past two weeks, starting with three fires that damaged seven vehicles on August 10.  Eight more cars were damaged in another incident the following morning, this time at an auto shop. You can see more on this incident here.

Police have requested that anyone with information on the incidents to please call 416-808-3100.
