Richmond, British Columbia — A B.C. automotive group wanted to reward the class of 2021 for its efforts by gifting a 2015 Nissan Versa Note to a local graduate.
Leon Cheliadin, general manager for Applewood Auto Group, said that they wanted to do more this year, especially because there have been a lot of financial stresses due to the pandemic.
“We wanted something more substantial, a little more sizable, a little bigger impact, for the graduating class, knowing it’s been a really difficult year, couple years, for graduating students,” he said. (SOURCE Richmond News)
The grade 12 students at H.J. Cambie Secondary School who were planning on going to The University of British Columbia (UBC), could write an essay about how winning a car would benefit them, and Isabella Sousa, was the lucky winner of her very first car.
“It was a very surreal moment,” she said.
The light blue Nissan only had 80,000 kilometres on it, and senior mechanics volunteered their time to fix it up with donated parts, so it would be all ready for Sousa’s graduation day. The ambitious student will be working at a summer camp and then heading to UBC in the fall to start her bachelor of arts degree all while having her new car take her to where she needs to go.
