Toronto, Ontario -- The Automotive Recyclers of Canada has published a position statement on responsible vehicle acquisition and auto theft prevention.
“This policy reflects ARC’s proactive leadership on an issue that continues to draw national attention — and it reinforces the role our members play in maintaining the integrity of the automotive recycling industry,” shared Wally Dingman, executive director of ARC, in a press release.
Key highlights of the statement include the following:
- Vehicles must be acquired only with valid ownership or insurer documentation
- Members must follow all applicable rules for VIN transfers and registration timelines
- All payments must be traceable — with government-issued ID required if cash is used
- Full VIN and vehicle details must be recorded and stored
- We support stronger oversight and enforcement of proper VIN branding
- ARC members must cooperate with law enforcement and regulators where needed
