Canadian electric-vehicle startup AstraX Charging Network Inc. has opened a 100-kilowatt DC fast-charging site at 7500 Woodbine Ave. in Markham, Ont., its first public fast-charging station.

AstraXCharge intends to build a network of 1,000 charging stations across Canada and the United States within the next five years, with the Woodbine Ave. charging site marking AstraXCharge’s transition from system validation to real-world operation, according to a news release from the company.

“This is an important milestone for AstraXCharge,” said Frank Lin, founder and president of AstraXCharge, in the company’s news release. “Bringing our first 100kW+ DC fast charging site into operation demonstrates our ability to deliver high-performance infrastructure and execute efficiently. This is the foundation for our continued network expansion.”

According to representatives from AstraXCharge, the site has successfully completed end-to-end system testing, including payment integration, high-power hardware deployment and operational validation.

The charging unit can deliver up to 100 kW of power in 10 minutes for $10, depending on the vehicle, allowing drivers to add approximately 100 kilometres of driving range. AstraXCharge will gather operational insights from the site to optimize user experience, reliability and performance in preparation for its broader network expansion.
