Toronto, Ontario — Kia Canada is still looking to recall 3,812 copies of its 2011 Sorento model regarding a software update that could potentially keep the engine from catching fire.

Transport Canada initially issued a recall in 2021 for a series of Kia models to update the engine control module “to detect potential problems before an engine fails.”

This most recent and ongoing recall only applies to specific Sorento models equipped with a 2.4L Theta II multi-point injection (MPI) engine that have not yet had a Knock Sensor Detection (KSD) software installed.

The KSD software is intended to help determine if the air-fuel mixture in the vehicle isn’t igniting at exactly the right moment, thus potentially leading to a fire starting in the vehicle’s engine.

Transport Canada is reminding drivers of 2011 Sorento models to stay up-to-date on recall information and to check for contact concerning the recall of individual vehicles.
