Spontaneous Heating: More than 74,000 American and Canadian Audis recalled for fuel leakage, engine failure risk

VW-Audi

Toronto, Ontario — The NHTSA and Transport Canada are recalling a flurry of Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, following warnings that up to two percent of affected vehicles are equipped with faulty fuel components that could result in engine fires in a worst-case scenario.

This Tuesday, the NHTSA reported that Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 74,067 SUVs in the United States due to faulty rod-bearing connections that could result in oil leaks and fires. The vehicles affected include 2021-2023 Audi Q5 and Q5 Sportback SUVs, 2022-2023 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs.

While Transport Canada has not responded to this recent recall, similar independent recalls contain familiar issues that may warrant closer inspection by Volkswagen and Audi owners.

Recall number 2022-517 indicates that 2022 Volkswagen TAOS SUVs may have software problems in the engine control unit that could result in stalling when the vehicle comes to a stop, increasing the risk of crashing.

Recall number 2022-503 indicates that 2022 Audi Q3 SUVs may have damaged vent pipes in the fuel tank, risking gasoline spills when fuel caps are removed.

Recall number 2022-182 in April indicates that 2021-2022 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs were recalled for fuel leaks that could result in engine fires.
