Mississauga, Ontario — June 6, 2016 — Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes has announced the launch of the Hail Damage Repair Process. According to a statement from the company, the new process is a turnkey solution for collision shops repairing cosmetic hail damage.

Hail storms invariably cause a spike in automotive insurance claims. Hail damage tends to cause numerous dents and dings all over the body of a vehicle. Repairing these dents with traditional body repair techniques would be extremely expensive. A more typical solution is to sublet the work to companies specializing in paintless dent repair (PDR).

However, the new solution from Sherwin-Williams is an alternative to panel replacement and lets body shop owners keep the work in-house instead of subletting.

Sherwin-Williams’ High Build Polyester Primer Surfacer HDR22 is the core of the new Hail Damage Repair Process. A statement from the company says it also helps to eliminates bottlenecks as there’s no downtime in waiting for parts delivery.

According to Sherwin-Williams, HDR22 is a fast drying polyester primer that has excellent filling and sanding characteristics. The company say coats HDR22 can fill surface imperfections and small dents up to the size of a nickel in just two or three coats. The flash time in between coats is only about five to 10 minutes.

“Hail storms never come with a warning and the reparability of damage relies on size and frequency of dents. Sherwin-Williams provides an ideal solution to body shop owners when repairing hail damaged vehicles. HDR22 provides an alternative to panel replacement and PDR,” says Bryan Draga, Global Marketing Director, Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes.
