VIDEO: Faulty electrics may have caused Kelowna shop fire

By Mike Davey

Kelowna, British Columbia — September 30, 2013 — Electrical faults may be to blame for the fire that broke out at White Stag Auto Body last week. The facility, located in Kelowna, B.C., recently had some electrical work done, according to fire officials. However, the investigation is still currently ongoing and the cause has not been confirmed at this time.

The fire started in the shop on Thursday morning. By 9 a.m., the area near the shop was virtually shut down as more than six fire trucks, hazmat crews and paramedics went to work.

As with any shop fire, there are concerns regarding chemicals stored on the premises, necessitating the presence of a hazmat team. The fire appears to have started in the refinish area, and then moved its way forward.

All staff members made it to safety, and were even able to remove some of their tools and customer vehicles from the building. Residents of a nearby condo complex were not in any immediate danger from the fire but were evacuated as a precaution.

Watch the video below for live footage of the fire and a short interview segment with Frank Basti, owner of White Stag Auto Body.
