Aurora, Ontario — December 30, 2015 — Auto parts manufacturer Magna International is getting into the connected car game. The parts giant announced that its “Moving People” exhibit at the CES 2016 world stage in Las Vegas will showcase innovations which seek to address key industry challenges related to connected vehicle security and driver safety.

Cyber security for vehicles is of increasing concern, especially as the OEMs load up vehicles with connected features and driver-assist systems. The technologies Magna International will display include a system that combines Magna’s secure gateway with Argus Cyber Security’s software solution to bring a proactive approach to enhanced vehicle cyber security. According to a statement from Magna International, many of the solutions currently being offered merely provide a firewall to keep hackers out. The combined Magna/Argus system goes further, and monitors for suspicious and/or potential malicious activity for early detection and prevention.

Magna will also showcase in-cabin imaging and head-up display technologies aimed at reducing distracted driving and improving driver safety. Magna’s solution uses a camera-based monitoring system which detects the driver’s eye gaze and measures levels of drowsiness and distraction. The head-up display projects an unobstructed image from the rear camera, using eye gaze determination to identify when a driver looks up at the interior mirror to get a rearward view.

“Magna continues to develop technologies which aim to create a smarter and safer driving experience for end consumers,” says Swamy Kotagiri, Magna’s Chief Technology Officer. “The systems we will be showing at CES represent leading-edge, cost-effective solutions which are necessary for today’s vehicles and critical for the development of autonomous vehicles.”

Magna’s CES booth will be located in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall, booth #4327. A driver-assistance system simulator and interactive vehicle secured connectivity demonstration will be available to booth visitors during show hours from January 6 to 9.
