Get E-xcited: Ford set to debut the Electric Van—E-Transit on Nov. 12

e-transit

Toronto, Ontario — Ford Motor Company will be unveiling its battery-electric van called the E-Transit on Nov. 12, 2020.

Ford disclosed the name and logo on Oct. 29, hours after CEO Jim Farley teased the unveiling on the company’s third-quarter earnings call.

The new EV van is expected to go on sale in 2021 as a 2022 model.

Ford’s announcement comes days after it officially started production of the first in a new wave of EVs, the Mustang Mach-E. However, the E-Transit will be marketed to commercial business, unlike the Mustang Mach-E.

The automaker sees an opportunity to gain sales and market share by selling EV’s to business owners and fleet operators, as well as, offering software and telematics services in addition to EVs.

On Oct. 28 Ford’s CEO called the E-Transit a “really big deal” for the company and will be investing U.S 11.5 billion in electrification through 2022.

Ford has previously stated the E-Transit will be available in a cargo van, cutaway, and chassis cab configurations, in addition to three roof heights and three body lengths.

The automaker has agreed to build the E-Transit at the Kansas City Assembly Plant as part of a four-year contract with the United Auto Workers (UAW) ratified last year. It’s also planning to assemble an E-Transit for Europe’s automotive market.
