Toronto Automotive Technology Competition winners

Toronto, Ontario — February 14, 2019 — Two automotive technician students from St. Brother Andre Catholic School will be representing Canada at the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City in April.

Sam Luff and Vince Servinis were victorious over 17 other high school teams to win the 20th annual Toronto Automotive Technology Competition, qualifying them for the national competition.

Leuff and Servinis performed a number of time technical tasks, including work on a new Volkswagen Beattle that had been rigged with a no-start condition by automotive instructors from Centennial College.

It was the third straight year that a team from Markham, Ontario has won the award.

Students Ethan Chong and Alessandro Albi from St. Brother Andre finished in second place, while third place went to Konrad Lisowski and Pawel Nikolaou from Phillip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga.

Vince Carnovale of Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School in Whitby was awarded the Gerd Reisenecker Memorial Teacher of the Year award, named after the former Centennial College professor and Trillium Automotive Dealers Association member.

The competition, which was presented by Centennial College and TADA in partnership with Auto Career Start, was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Sponsors for the event included TADA, Auto Career Start, the Canadian International AutoShow, Volkswagen Canada and Toronto-area VW dealers, General Motors Canada, Snap-On Tools, Consulab, Canadian Tire, Prona Tools, Electude-Argo, Nelson Education and Centennial College.
