Sterile and Shiny: GM patents car interior sterilization system

Detroit, Michigan – A patent for an interior sterilization system has been filed by General Motors intended for ride-sharing vehicles.

According to the publicly listed details, this is an automated system that uses ultraviolet light to sterilize different parts of the vehicle. Because of the harmful effects of excessive ultraviolet radiation, this system can only be used when no passengers are detected inside the vehicle.

This patent is one of the many patents filed by General Motors subsidiary company, Cruise as a part of a wider push for automated and smart technologies like automated taxis and seat belt damage detection.
