Calgary, Alberta — August 29, 2016 — The Strathmore detachment of the RCMP have uncovered what appears to be a chop shop operating in a rural area just south of the community of Chestermere. Chestermere is located to the east of Calgary.

A search warrant was executed by RCMP officers on a building early Thursday morning. Officers reportedly found a 2017 SUV that had been disassembled. The RCMP say the vehicle was stolen from Calgary on Wednesday.

One suspect, a 28-year-old man from Calgary, was found in the building and arrested. The RCMP have yet to release his name, but the man is facing numerous charges, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

According to local radio station 660 News, the RCMP received tips and complains from neighbours of suspicious activity at the building, prompting the investigation.

“The Strathmore RCMP obtained and executed a search warrant on a rural property, once inside we did find a higher end 2017 SUV that had been dismantled in which would appear for sale in pieces. That vehicle, through our investigation, we later found was previously stolen the day before out of the city of Calgary. There was a male found on scene who was arrested,” said Sergeant Steve Vince, according to 660 News.
