Prius Power Loss: Toyota recalling 11,500 Prius cars in Canada for powertrain defect

Toronto, Ontario — Toyota is recalling 11, 576 older Prius hybrids in Canada due to a powertrain defect that could lead to the cars suddenly stalling.

Prius models from 2013 to 2015 and Prius v models from 2014 to 2017 are cited in the recall. A total of 752,000 cars are affected worldwide.

Toyota will update the hybrid software in all affected vehicles, and will replace the powertrain if a fault led to an inverter failure.

Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by late August 2020.

For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota and Lexus vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting Toyota.ca/recall or Lexus.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
