Hamilton, Ontario – August 9, 2018 –As part of a new partnership, SGI CANADA will be donating a portion of all recycled parts sales from CARSTAR locations across Alberta towards Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
To start the program, SGI CANADA, an established Canadian insurance company is donating $10,000 to the charity to show its commitment to CARSTAR.
From this July to next July, all of the CARSTAR locations in Alberta will see a portion of their SGI CANADA recycled parts purchases go to the charity.
“Groundbreaking programs like this are incredibly encouraging as it shows that SGI CANADA understands our values and wants to support us in the fight to end cystic fibrosis,” says Michael Macaluso, CARSTAR President.
SGI CANADA holds a salvage division, which is known Canada-wide as an environmental leader in automotive recycling, with state-of-the-art facilities providing high quality recycled parts and whole vehicles for sale. Each year, the division recycles 25,000 vehicles, 70,000 litres of fuel and more than 34,000 litres of oil.
According to Sean LeBlanc, senior director, National Claims Partnerships, SGI CANADA, the team is excited to give back to a great charity.
“Our whole team is motivated by this exciting initiative and the rewardingwork of seeing our donation make a real difference in the lives of those impacted by cystic fibrosis.” said Sean LeBlanc, senior director, National Claims Partnerships, SGI CANADA," he said.
The CARSTAR and cystic fibrosis affiliation all started when the granddaughter of a CARSTAR owner received a cystic fibrosis diagnosis in 1997. At that time, the life expectancy of someone living with cystic fibrosis was 30. Over the course of the more than 20-year partnership, Canadian franchise partners, vendors and community supporters helped CARSTAR raise over $3 million for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. These and other funds make a tremendous impact; proof being that the estimated age of survival for a Canadian born with the disease today is 53.3.
“It is difficult to put into words how grateful Cystic Fibrosis Canada is for these significant programs, as its benefits are wide reaching and truly life changing,” said Christine Martysiewicz, director corporate partnerships, Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
“We have already seen the effects these valuable funds have on cystic fibrosis research, care and advocacy – and we cannot wait to see what the next chapter holds, thanks to our generous new partner, SGI CANADA.”
SGI CANADA and CARSTAR celebrated this tremendous partnership before with a cheque presentation to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. This took place at the Walk the Line; cystic fibrosis fundraiser at Momentum 2018, CARSTAR’s annual North American conference.
