Hamilton, Ontario -- August 29, 2017 -- Spray guns may not be the highest-ticket pieces of equipment in your shop, but there’s no question that they’re an absolutely vital part of a high-quality finished product. Collision Repair magazine’s latest survey asked our readers to let us know a few facts about the humble spray guns in their own shops.
We run new surveys every week through collisionrepairmag.com. Our next survey focuses on OEM procedures, and how often they’re consulted when it comes to writing estimates and performing repairs. You can participate in that survey at this link.
Our first question regarding spray guns took a look at the numbers. According to our survey results, it’s a rare shop that has less than four spray guns in the building. In fact, the vast majority of respondents (80 percent) indicated they had at least four spray guns.
From this, it’s natural to assume that spray guns are a frequently purchased item. The results from our next question seem to bear this out. A total of 48 percent of respondents indicated they had purchased a new spray gun in the last year, with an additional 26 percent saying they had purchased one in 2016. The next largest group purchased a new gun in 2015, but that was just 11 percent of respondents. The numbers drop off from there.
We also asked the same readers if they intended to purchase a new spray gun in the next 12 months. A little over a quarter of them (28 percent) said they did, with an a further 37 percent indicating that they did not. The remaining 35 percent were undecided.
Collision Repair magazine's next survey takes a look at how closely OEM procedures are being followed when it comes to estimates and repairs. Please remember that all of our surveys are completely anonymous and usually take less than two minutes to complete. You can find that survey at this link and make sure to watch for the results next Wednesday on collisionrepairmag.com!
