Toronto, Ontario -- February 1, 2016 -- AkzoNobel has achieved the number one ranking on the 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), resulting in the award of an Industry Leader, Gold Class distinction for excellent sustainability performance.
The DJSI is based on an analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices. The trend is to reject companies that do not operate in a sustainable and ethical manner. It includes general as well as industry-specific sustainability criteria.
According to a statement from the company, AkzoNobel’s distinguished sustainability performance over the last few years is a reflection of its continued efforts to ensure that its financial performance is driven by its commitment to environmental, social and governance factors.
The recognition also includes a listing in the 2016 Sustainability Yearbook, which features the world's most sustainable companies, as determined by their score in RobecoSAM’s annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).
The latest DJSI ranking places AkzoNobel at the top of its sector for the fourth year in a row. Published every year since 2004, The Sustainability Yearbook provides snapshots of the main trends, challenges and opportunities that bridge the gap between corporate sustainability and sustainability investing.
