Toronto, Ontario — Canadian Mazda dealers are being empowered to give a gift back to individuals in their area this holiday season, as the OEM’s Canadian division announced that it has earmarked $600,000 for dealers to award to “Local Community Legends.”
Thus far, 183 individuals have had this honour bestowed upon them for reasons pertaining to anything from their volunteerism, local mentorship or community organizing.
Here are a few those Local Community Legends, as highlighted in Mazda’s press release:
Danielle Descent of Sept-Iles, Que. uses her training as a psychologist to help Indigenous youth, women and elders reconnect to their culture, language and ancestral grounds.
Rosemarie Biggs from Sherwood Park, Alta. hand-knits toques and donates them to women’s and homeless shelters.
Manock Lual of Ottawa, Ont. uses his life experience and sports prowess to empower youth on and off the basketball court.
“At Mazda, we strongly believe that building a better world starts by building up those around us, and that giving back to the communities in which we operate is both a responsibility and a privilege,” said president and CEO of Mazda Canada, David Klan.
“There are so many citizens across Canada who are working tirelessly to give back to their communities, and we couldn’t be prouder to collaborate with our retail network to identify some of these hardworking community members and contribute to their causes.”
Mazda considers the Local Community Legends program to be a continuation of 2021’s Local Legends initiative, which saw the automaker donate more than $1 million to small businesses to help them keep their doors open during the pandemic.
