More automotive jobs to open up in Windsor

By CRM staff

Toronto, Ontario — January 15, 2019 — Canada’s minister of innovation, science and economic development announced that two automotive technology companies in Windsor will be opening up nearly 160 new jobs and be given a total of $5 million in support of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan.

The announcement, which came on Monday, stated that APAG Elektronik Corp, a manufacturer of electronic control parts and LED lighting for automobiles, would be receiving $4 million in federal funding in order to establish it’s new 32,000 square feet, Windsor facility, serving as the North American head quarters for the company.

The other company, Service Mold + Aerospace, a tool and mold manufacturer, will be receiving $1 million to put in their new state-of-the-art equipment at it’s 34,000-foot manufacturing facility.

Once the new installations are complete, the company will be able to produce components as large as 54 feet by 12 feet, making the facility one of the largest machining centres in southern Ontario.

“This support has aided Service Mold + Aerospace to add equipment that has enabled us to attract new business that otherwise would not be capable of winning,” said Martin Schuurman, president of Service Mold + Aerospace.

While jobs will be opening up in Windsor, Ontario premier Doug Ford has been trying to sway more automotive manufacturers at the North America International Auto Show to open up in Ontario. “The message I’m sending out there is that Ontario is open for business,” Ford said.
