Detroit, Michigan — August 2, 2015 — Many new and exciting products were on display at this year’s NACE show. One standout is the world’s first LED-equipped attachment for spray guns, the Aurora.
Recent advances in LED technology are finally coming to the paint booth. Equipment distributor Luma III is making the device available in Canada.
The Aurora consists of a carbon fibre composite mechanism fits behind the nozzle of a spray gun. Two LEDs on each side of the nozzle provide a new level of illumination for paint techs.
The nozzle of the spray gun produces a faint shadow. This allows the painter to line up the shadow mark at the bottom of the previous pass to get a fifty percent overlap. There is, according to marketing materials, “visual recognition of the center of a painter’s spray” making a more precise level of painting possible.
The device operates at 4600 Kelvin, roughly equivalent to light from the sun hitting Earth at around noon. The LED light allows painters to colour match during the painting process, rather than after.
“You can see the atomization, you can see your pattern a whole lot better … light is right there in front of you,” says Kirk Lucas, owner and CEO of Luma III. He was demonstrating the device live on the floor at NACE. “You see what your paint job looks like naturally in the sun.”
According to the company, the device reduces labour hours by decreasing technician errors and eliminating unnecessary steps; it also saves on monthly expenses including electric bills, unnecessary equipment and materials.
