I-CAR Canada’s hottest courses

Toronto, Ontario – April 4, 2019 – New technology is shaping the collision repair industry and safety has become a huge factor of how vehicles are being made today. The repair procedures are more complex and require new knowledge and sometimes research. I-CAR Canada has come out with courses to help future repairers have the right knowledge to perform certain repairs on newer vehicles.

Collision Repair has broken down four of the hottest courses I-CAR is offering.

Calibration Requirements for Blind Spot and Parking Assist Systems

While it used to be uncommon for vehicles to carry blind spot and parking assist features, it has now become the norm for every new vehicle on the road. This one-hour course will show the repairer how to identify what type of system are within the vehicle and what needs to be done after the repair to make sure the system is working again. The course will go over the specific tools and procedures that are required for the calibration of these systems.

Camera Calibration, Inspection, and Initialization Requirements 

In this one-hour course, students will be able to identify if a vehicle is equipped with a rear-view camera, surround view camera system or a night view camera system. Students will also learn about the procedures for calibrating, inspecting and initializing camera systems on vehicles made by Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda/Acura, Subaru, Kia, and more.

Vehicle Technology and Trends 2018

The industry is changing very fast, and trends such as electric and autonomous are moving in. This one-hour course covers the features and collision repair procedures for several 2018 models including North American, Asian, and European. It will go over the manufacturing trends that are ultimately changing the way repairers perform their everyday duties. New equipment, materials, and procedures to be covered include bumper tab pliers for use when nitrogen welding plastic, 3M Aerosol Cavity Wax, and the fact that Ford is launching a company that sells parts to fix competing vehicles.

The Art and Science of Estimator Interactions

Along with knowing the proper repair procedures, customer service is also a huge part of the collision repair business. That all comes hand-in-hand with good communication. With solid communication skills, you are able to obtain supplemental repair approval, provide updates on repair status’, and update customers on any price changes with the repairs being done. The first module lets students learn the importance of communication skills through four different activities.  The second module will cover the estimation process. Do the photos taken of the repair determine the full story? The following module ties in with communicating properly with insurance companies, giving students a problem-solving strategy and the importance of documentation and communication to securing an estimation approval. The final module will allow students to discuss their important role in the repair process and review the remaining requirements in the estimating process.
