Fiat Chrysler recall

By CRM Staff

Toronto, Ontario — February 7, 2019 — Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 660,000 heavy-duty trucks worldwide.

The recall, which pertains to a loose nut that can cause a loss of steering control, covers Ram 3500 pickups from 2013 to 2017, as well as 2500 pickups and 3500 Chassis cabs from 2014 to 2017.

The manufacturer is aware of eight crashes and one injury that could be potentially related.

A majority of the trucks subject to the recall are in Canada and the U.S.

Dealers will be inspecting a steering linkage nut on all recalled vehicles. If the nut is found to be properly tightened, it will be welded to a sleeve to keep it from moving. If loose, a new steering assembly will be installed.

Approximately 194,000 Ram light-duty trucks are also being recalled in the U.S., due to the potential of brake pedals falling off.

Vehicles included in the recall are 2019 Ram pickups with adjustable brake pedals. More than one-third of the affected vehicles are still at dealerships and will be fixed before being delivered to customers. The 2019 Ram Classic is not part of the recall.

The adjustable pedals are activated by a switch in the cab which is powered by an electric motor. The company discovered that the brake pedal can detach when moved to its rear-most position.

The company is unaware of any crashes or injuries associated with the defect and are urging owners to not adjust the pedals until after the vehicle has been fixed.
