Driven Allies: Driving Choice campaign gains new partner

Toronto, Ontario — Oct. 8, 2019 — The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) has joined as a partner to IBC’s recently announced Driving Choice campaign–aimed towards giving BC residents more choices in how they get their auto insurance and directly combatting ICBC’s perceived monopoly in the province.

Announced in September, Driving Choice aims to educated BC drivers as to how auto insurance functions throughout the rest of the country, but also to instruct them on how to demand auto insurance options to their respective Members of Legislative Assembly.

The CFIB’s support brings new information to the program. In a survey of independent businesses in BC, the federation found that 75 percent of respondents want ICBC’s grip on the province to end.

“It’s time drivers and small businesses in British Columbia had the ability to choose the auto insurance provider that’s right for them,” said Aaron Aerts of CFIB. “The Driving Choice campaign is a great initiative that gives businesses and drivers a voice to spur meaningful change in the province.”

Along with this partnership, Driving Choice has also accrued more than 5,000 signatures of support from BC residents. Aaron Sutherland, the vice president of IBC, united the outcry of frustrated drivers with that of small business owners under the same motivation.

“The overwhelming majority of drivers in BC have stated clearly that they want more choice in auto insurance,” said Sutherland. “With CFIB joining the Driving Choice campaign, it’s clear small businesses want the same.”

Said Aerts, “it’s time for ICBC to compete for its business.”
