Toronto, Ontario – Axalta recently released an updated position statement highlighting recommendations for automotive refinishers when blending clearcoats.

According to the recommendation report, applying clearcoat to an entire vehicle panel is a requirement for warranted systems supplied by Axalta Coating Systems.

The report further indicates that the blend approach to clearcoat can produce a “finish that appears acceptable to the customer at the time of delivery though the repair industry is aware the blend edge can become apparent within the remaining service life of the vehicle.”

For Axalta, it is also important that collision industry members know that most vehicle manufacturers do not recognize clearcoat blending or back taping/back masking on body lines as an accepted method for the execution of OEM warranty repairs.

All repairers and refinishers should follow the approved processes outlined in Axalta’s Technical Data Sheets, concludes the coatings company.
