Toronto, Ontario -- Recently released figures show the median collision repairer is earning a mid-five figure salary in the U.S.

The median annual wage for automotive body and related repairers was US$51,680 ($67,703) in May 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Of these repairers, the 10 percent with the lowest wage earned less than US$36,390 ($47,671), and the 10 percent with the highest wage earned more than US$87,040 ($114,022).

The median annual wage for automotive glass installers and repairers was around US$4,500 ($5,895) less than autobody average.

Top industries included automotive body, paint, interior and glass repair, with a median annual wage of US$54,530 ($71,434), automobile dealers, with a median annual wage of US$50,050 ($65,566) and automotive mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance, with a median annual wage of US$49,520 ($64,871).

Many automotive body and glass repairers are paid on an incentive basis in addition to their guaranteed base salary, notes the Bureau, meaning their wage depends on the amount of work assigned and how fast it is completed.

In Canada, the median annual wage for both an auto body repairer and an automotive glass technician in 2024 was $25.50 an hour, with a low hourly wage of $17.50 and a high median wage of $38.46, according to Job Bank. Auto body repairers and automotive glass technicians working full time at 40 hours a week would make a median annual wage of $53,040 (US$38,280).
