BASF to unveil ‘Color of the Year’ and latest Chip Foose build at 2016 SEMA Show

Southfield, Michigan — October 14, 2016 — BASF Automotive Refinish is set to reveal its inaugural “Color of the Year” at the 2016 SEMA Show, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

“BASF will showcase its largest display yet at SEMA featuring our latest advancements for the automotive refinish market,” said Dan Bihlmeyer, BASF North America Marketing Head, Coatings Solutions. “With five world class vehicles, exciting and unique new paint colours and tools, BASF displays a wide variety of products and services to help our collision repair customers and distributors be more productive and drive their overall profitability.”

The “Color of the Year” reveal will take place during a press conference held at BASF’s booth #20367 in the Racing & Performance area of Central Hall at 12:30 p.m. on November 1. The 2016 SEMA Show runs November 1 to 4 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre.

BASF will also unveil the latest in restyled and custom vehicles, new colour offerings, advanced business solutions and custom paint solutions.

The 2017 BASF ‘Color of the Year’ will be featured on a custom 2009 Nissan Skyline GT-R. In addition, BASF will also showcase the new R-M ONYX HD / Diamont “Zyrilliant” colours, a collection of 108 new colours that provide solutions for custom car builders with extreme effects; and SEMA Hall of Famer Chip Foose will unveil his latest creation featuring Glasurit 90 Line paint, a custom ’39 Cadillac Coupe.

Foose will be available to sign autographs at the conclusion of the press conference. More celebrity builders and painters will be at the BASF booth throughout the SEMA Show, including Ryan Friedlinghaus from 3 to 5 p.m. on November 1, Richard Petty from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on November 2 and KC Mathier on November 2 from 1 to 2 p.m. and on November 4 from 1 to 2 p.m.

A statement from BASF says the booth will also feature its advanced business solutions to drive efficiency, growth and profitability to the collision repair market. Four custom vehicles will be on display throughout the 2016 SEMA Show: a 1955 Chevrolet Roadster from G3 Rods and a 1961 Chevy Impala from Greening Auto Company, both finished in Glasurit 90 Line; a 2017 Ford Petty Mustang from Petty’s Garage painted with R-M Diamont “Zyrilliant” and a a 2012 Harley Davidson Street Glide from Camtech Custom Baggers, featuring R-M Diamont Carizzma.

Finally, Chip Foose will present the second annual Glasurit Best Paint Award on November 2 at 9 a.m. Participants are judged on fit, finish, quality of preparation and final presentation of their Glasurit painted vehicles.
