B.C. auto repair facility goes up in flames

Toronto, Ontario — August 14, 2019 — A vehicle fire on Mitchell Island quickly turned into the loss of a well-known business as flames consumed J and A Auto Recycling – an auto repair and auto recycling facility in the Richmond area of the island.

Mid-afternoon on August 9, firefighters on Mitchell island received a report of large black plumes of smoke coming from the intersection of Twigg Place and Mitchell Road. When they arrived, they saw a structure up in flames.

J and A Auto Recycling’s small vehicle fire had spread to the second floor of their building, resulting in the damage of the office space up above.

Thankfully, due to the speediness of the local fire crew, the fire was distinguished fast and no injuries were reported.

“The Richmond Fire-Rescue responded quickly to the fire and contained it before spreading anywhere else,” reported spokesperson for Mitchell Island, Clay Adams.

There has been no report of the exact extent of the damage however Adams predicts that given the age of the facility, it may be significant.

“It’s an older building, like many of the buildings are on Mitchell Island with a wooden roof and so on. The building itself will likely be heavily damaged.”
