Auto Altruism: Cox Automotive partners with Habitat for Humanity for industry build

Toronto, Ontario — September 20, 2019 — The Canadian automotive industry achieved a milestone this week as team members from various automotive organizations participated in the first-ever Canadian Automotive Industry Build in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada.

On Wednesday, employees from Cox Automotive Canada, Canadian Black Book, CARFAX Canada, Desjardins, Hyundai Canada, Scotiabank and the Used Car Dealers Association gathered at the build’s site in Mississauga. While Habitat for Humanity and Cox Automotive head the initiative, the companies are thrilled to have sponsorship support from Bank of Montreal and TD Canada Trust.

While there have been many Habitat for Humanity initiatives in Canada, this is the first to be conducted by the automotive industry.

The industry sees the build as an opportunity to connect with an important cause; helping build stronger communities by assisting families to achieve strength, stability and self-reliance.

“As leaders in the automotive industry, we believe that it is important to support our local communities,” said Maria Soklis, president of Cox Automotive Canada, at the project’s opening ceremony. “We, as an industry, have a unique opportunity to make a difference, and that is what we are going to do.”

Representatives from the auto industry will work alongside community volunteers and Habitat for Humanity construction staff until the end of October. Future Habitat homeowners will also participate in the build, completing up to 500 hours of volunteer service as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Cox Automotive is an automotive repair technology firm with operations all across the globe. The company focuses on continually improving products to create faster vehicle transactions, enabling consumers to have a seamless online-to-offline experience.

Habitat for Humanity came to Canada in 1985 and is now a leading national nonprofit with local representatives working in every province and territory across the country. Since the nonprofit headed north, 3,619 Canadian families have partnered with the organization to gain access to a decent and affordable home. According to Habitat for Humanity, each home built generates about $175,000 in benefits to society.
