Toronto, Ontario -- A Canadian catalytic converter recycling and processing company is making a major move south of the border.
PMR's U.S.-based subsidiary is investing about $8.2 million CAD to construct a 2,300-square-metre facility in Gastonia, North Carolina. It is set to open its doors in early 2026.
The facility will feature custom-built, AI-integrated machinery designed in-house to deliver one-touch processing. PMR says the new system will allow it to triple the processing capacity of a traditional processing facility of the same size.
This isn't the first time PMR has developed new technologies to improve its performance. Between 2011 and 2015, it introduced in-house engineered tools enabling payments based on assay results with minimal lot requirements.
According to Christian Thibault, chief executive officer of PMR USA, the new technology will set a new standard for the auto recycling sector.
“Margins are tight and the stakes are high. So we’re investing in the kind of tech that doesn't just get the job done — it makes the whole operation smarter, smoother and way more attractive to our partners.”
PMR Inc., a Canadian trailblazer in catalytic converter recycling, has evolved from a modest operation into an industry leader renowned for innovation and transparency.
Founded in 1996 in Laval, Québec, PMR began by purchasing and selling catalytic converters individually.Today, PMR operates multiple processing facilities across North America and offers a comprehensive online database with real-time pricing for more than 22,000 converters.
