AIA Canada announces 2017 award recipients

Ottawa, Ontario — May 8, 2017 — AIA Canada has announced the 2017 recipients of the AIA Distinguished Service Award and the Young Leader of the Year Award.

This year’s Distinguished Service Award goes to John Maslack, founder and President of Maslack Supply. Jason Best, Executive Vice President, Aftermarket of Spectra Premium Industries has been named as the 2017 Young Leader of the Year. Both awards will be presented immediately following AIA’s 75th Annual General Meeting at the Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, taking place at the Hilton Meadowvale Hotel in Mississauga, Ontario.

Maslack built his company, Maslack Supply, on the foundation of ensuring that the customer is the most important person in the business. Through his leadership and innovative business thinking over the years, Maslack Supply has provided a gateway to Northern Ontario for parts manufacturers to distribute automotive, collision, heavy duty and industrial replacement parts to remote end users since 1959.

Maslack Supply has grown to twelve locations and a staff of over 200 people. In addition to these locations, Maslack Supply has recently opened a new state-of-the-art training centre in Sudbury, Ontario to accommodate its customers.

Maslack is also an avid community supporter. He pioneered the Sudbury Memorial Hospital Foundation and served on the Sudbury Memorial Hospital Board of Governors. The recipient of numerous honours and awards, he has been recognized with Sudbury’s Sports Celebrity Hall of Fame award in recognition of his support of local youth teams; the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition for being an outstanding contributor to improving the community and quality of life and the 2012 Bell Business Excellence Award.

Jason Best, recipient of the 2017 Young Leader of the Year, is well-known and respected for his approach to leadership and his ability to share his vision with his team and customers. His enthusiastic approach is visible from the boardroom to the plant floor and everywhere in between. Named Automotive Aftermarket Leader of the Year by Babcox Publications in 2010 and 2014, Jason has been a speaker at many industry events in addition to being featured on numerous occasions in the trade press.

Under his leadership, Spectra Premium Industries has moved from a one product line company to having multiple product lines in its portfolio.

Best is a strong supporter of his community and has coached both children’s soccer and tee-ball. He has dedicated many hours to AIA Canada and has served as a Director on the AIA Board of Directors since 2014. Following this year’s annual general meeting, Best will join the AIA Board Executive as Second Vice-Chair.
