Toronto, Ontario — May 10, 2019 — What happened this week? What were some of the big headlines of the week? Don’t worry, Collision Repair has recapped the five most important collision repair-related headlines of the week.

The Future of The Coatings Industry

PPG vice president of industrial coatings Kevin Braun will be discussing the future of the coatings industry at the Eastern Coatings Show on May 13 to 15 at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Braun’s presentation The Future of the Coatings Industry: How Current Trends Are Driving Change will review two of the megatrends impacting the future of the coatings industry, the era of digital transformation and the future of mobility.

Additional Industry Insight

The Quebec division of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada has added four new members to its board, Elizabeth Lambert, Steve Oborne, Marie-Ange Cloutier, and Frank Tonon.

Acknowledging Auto Aftermarket Leaders

The AIA Canada recognized two Canadian industry leaders, Simplicity Car Care’s Paul Prochilo and industry veteran John MacDonald during its annual 77th general meeting at the Novotel Toronto Mississauga Hotel. CEO of Simplicity Car Care Paul Prochilo is an active member of the aftermarket industry. His dedication has landed him the achievement of this year’s Young Professionals in the Aftermarket (YPA) Young Leaders of the Year Award. With John MacDonald’s experience and commitment to the industry over the course of 35 years, he was awarded the AIA Distinguished Service Award. MacDonald is a strong supporter of the AIA Canada, serving on numerous councils including chairing AIA Canada’s Wholesalers Council. 

MPI’s Warning 

Manitoba Public Insurance is now warning auto repairers to be cautious of where client’s keys are being stored. Last Saturday, a Winnipeg had her SUV stolen at a Canadian Tire service centre while it was there for repairs. Police have determined that someone went inside the shop found her keys and took the vehicle.

The Assured Gala

More than 900 repairers and industry members of the Assured Automotive and Boyd Group from all over Ontario filled the Chateau LeJardin in Woodbridge, Ont. for the annual Assured Gala event on May 4. Not only was this annual event an opportunity to bring the whole team together but to recognize those who put forward an outstanding effort over the past year. Eight awards were then given out throughout the night, recognizing employees and facilities in the areas of operations and customer excellence.  Another 15 employees were also recognized for their commitment over the last 10 years, and were handed the “Decade of Excellence Award.”
