Toronto, Ontario--August 30, 2010--A recent survey from Royal and Sun Alliance (RSA) Canada shows that as many as 70 per cent of Ontario drivers are unaware of upcoming legislation that will allow them to customize their coverage to better suit their needs.

The legislation will take effect September 1, 2010, at which time Ontario drivers, who on average pay almost 25 per cent more for auto insurance than drivers in any other province, will be able to change their policy to better suit their needs. While this won’t change premiums it will increase people’s options and improve their coverage. It will also give them more options in relation to attendant, medical, and rehabilitation care.

However according to the survey almost 70 per cent of respondents did not understand the reforms or how it will impact their coverage.

“These statistics show there is real opportunity for brokers to educate drivers on the host of improvements the auto reforms will bring,” said Irene Bianchi, RSA's vice president of claims & corporate services.

To combat the public’s lack of knowledge, RSA is hosting a series of information sessions for insurance brokers to make them better able to help their customers.
